Confusion.Chinese New Year just round the corner,time to dish out red pockets to those unhitched individuals I e across on a regular basis.Or so i thought…
Apparently,the rules for giving Hong baos aren’t the same here on the mainland as they were when i was living in Hong Kong.That’s if my teachers and other various Beijingren are to be believed of course.Supposedly,the tradition of giving red pockets after Spring festival is now pretty much left to grandparents giving their grandchildren,and not as widespread,or indeed,expected as it now is in Hong kong.
