State of mind就是心理状态的意思啊,或者说是心境....speaks of这里和represents应该差不多
being有存在的意思,在这里它不是辅助动词.比如莎士比亚的名句：To be or not to be“也是存在的意思.这里翻译成”是什么“也和上下文的意思有关.,often,在这里是插入语,注意它前后的逗号,这是插入语的标志.因为这一句比较长,所以often就以插入语的形式加入.
这里roared“是针对The world”而言的....in which 'pleasure' and 'excellence'是用来形容The wrold“的,并不是形容excellence”的.
我个人感觉：whereas通but,yet可能更有补充的意思,也就是说yet不一定完全否认前面的短句,whereas和but有否定前面短句的意思.
