　　最差的一对是伊丽莎白的妹妹莉迪亚和魏肯先生。莉迪亚为人轻浮，喜欢追求年轻帅气的军官，爱慕虚荣，是班纳特太太的心肝。在姨母家小住的时候日日与军官们狂欢，最后竟在魏肯的引诱下与之私奔。魏肯是更复杂的一个人，他是达西先生家里的管家的儿子。管家去世后，达西的父亲答应要好好培育他，并给他留了一个牧师的位置。但魏肯本人好赌，且不务正业，用这个牧师的位置跟达西交换了一笔钱吃喝玩乐去了。在积蓄花光之后，靠人借钱捐了个军官去做。他处处污蔑达西为人刻薄，给伊丽莎白讲很多达西的坏话，造成伊丽莎白最开始很讨厌傲慢的达西。魏肯开始追求的是伊丽莎白，但发现对方没有多少遗产可继承时，就改追求富裕却不美貌的另一位小姐。在另一个地方从军时，整天和军官们一起和莉迪亚狂欢，最后由于赌债过高偿还不起所以决定潜逃。临走的时候顺带带走了莉迪亚，那个小姑娘还天真的以为能和帅帅的军官私奔是一件很伟大的事情。后来在达西的努力下，帮魏肯还掉所有的债务后，又给了他一大笔钱，魏肯才答应和莉迪亚正式办理结婚手续，挽回莉迪亚的名誉。
　　夏洛特和伊丽莎白的表哥柯思林是很现实的一对夫妇，甚至都不知道他们算不算得上是恋人。柯思林怀着“伟大”的心情决定向班内特的一个女儿求婚，弥补自己得到班内特先生全部遗产给他们造成的不便。在追求伊丽莎白时，非常自信的认为对方嫁给自己是一件可以令对方很自豪的事情。伊丽莎白言辞拒绝他，他还坚持的认为是由于女方的羞涩，这时候自己应当给对方充足的时间考虑，直到伊丽莎白说自己“愚蠢”时，他才恍然大悟，一个“愚蠢”的姑娘是不适合牧师夫人这个职业的。于是在同一天，他又跑去向夏洛特小姐求婚。夏洛特知道自己没多少遗产，而自己所想要的平静的生活，所以虽然没有爱情，但柯思林能给自己这种生活，她就答应了，即使对方看起来是那么的肤浅和无知。她坚信婚姻是一件很磨人的事情，对对方的了解越少，生活越能持续下去。
　　之后是宾利先生和伊丽莎白的姐姐简的爱情故事。两个人的个性很相似，都是温和的人，不善于拒绝别人，对好友的建议看的很重。两人相识没多久就陷入了爱情，但简表现的太淑女了，甚至于把自己陷入爱情的征兆都掩藏的很好。这让达西误认为对方并没有跟自己的朋友宾利那样陷入狂热的恋情，而且对方没有一点家产，自己有必要阻止朋友陷入不划算的婚姻中。虽然后来达西自己也承认了错误，但这个观点还是很大程度上影响了宾利的决定，因为宾利离开简去了别的地方。直到伊丽莎白非常强硬的指责了达西这个“弱智且冷酷”的错误后，达西向宾利道歉，宾利才重回庄园，和简旧情复燃。
　　最后就是我们的主角伊丽莎白和达西了。伊丽莎白在舞会上认识达西，却因为对方不屑于跟自己跳舞而坚信达西是一个非常傲慢的人。于是在后来达西来邀请她跳舞时，也被她讽刺的拒绝了。听魏肯说了那么多达西的坏话，虽然未经查证，但她深信不疑。后来去柯思林和夏洛特家小住的时候遇上在姨母家的达西。这时达西已经开始疯狂的迷恋伊丽莎白，并向她求婚。但结果很显然，伊丽莎白非常坚决的拒绝了他，姐姐的爱情被他们搞坏事非常重要的一个原因，另一个就是他对魏肯的“绝情”。达西情绪非常激动的写了一封很长很长的解释信给伊丽莎白，解释自己跟魏肯之间的恩怨，是由于魏肯诱使自己的妹妹和他私奔开始的。收到信后，伊丽莎白刚开始完全不能接受对方的“狡辩”，慢慢的才开始反省自己。后来伊丽莎白去姨母家住随姨母去旅行时经过达西的庄园，正好碰见达西。二人关系有所好转，但这时魏肯和妹妹莉迪亚私奔的事情传开了。伊丽莎白很受打击，急速赶回家了。达西想方设法找到魏肯，并花钱买通他，要他和莉迪亚结婚。事情成功之后达西和宾利重新回到伊丽莎白家临近的庄园，再次向伊丽莎白表露心声，有情人终成眷属。
