【答案】 其实区别都在句子里面,最好在句子里面体会差别.脱离句子区分其实意义不大.
　　population的使用,应注意以下几点：
　　1. 其前不能用数词修饰,也不能与many, few之类的词连用,指人口“多、少”用large, small；表示“某地拥有多少人口”,一般用“have a population of+基数词”.试译：
　　（1）这个城市人口很多.
　　误：The population of this city is very many.
　　正：The population of this city is very large.
　　（2）中国现有13多亿人口.
　　误：China has more than thirteen hundred million population now.
　　正：China has a population of more than thirteen hundred million now.
　　2. 问某地的人口数,通常用what 或how large.
　　What／How large is the population of Europe? 欧洲有多少人口?
　　3. population指“人口”总称,是集合名词,常用单数.作主语,其谓语动词可以用单数,侧重整体；也可用复数,侧重个体.
　　Half the world’s population doesn’t get enough to eat. 世界有一半人口没有足够的食物吃.
　　One third of the population here are workers.这里三分之一的人是工人.（指不同的地区、时期、民族的人口时,可用复数形式.）
　　另外,population of应该不算固定搭配吧.前面可以加a或者the,a population of泛指、the population of特指,就和a与the本身的区别类似.
