My fiance(未婚夫) and I were excited about shopping for our first home. But our money were not 16 , and none of the houses we could afford satisfied us.
One agent(代理) 17 a house to us. According to her, it sounded wonderful, but the price was too 18 , so we turned it down. But she kept saying that we’d have a look at least.
We finally did and it was 19 at first sight. It was our home, small and charming, near a quiet lake. When we were walking through the rooms and talking with the owners, a nice old couple, we felt warm and happy. Though the house was 20 , the price remained too high for us. But every day, we would sit by the lake, looking at the house and 21 of what it would be like to live there.
Days later, we made an offer (出价)—far below the asking price. To our surprise, they didn’t 22 at us. They changed their offer instead. It was also much more than we could 23 , but far less than that they asked before.
The next day, we got a 24 message that another buyer had offered a much higher price. Even so, we decided to talk with the 25 directly. We made our final offer, which still was thousands of dollars 26 than the other buyers’. We knew it, but we had to 27 .
“Sold!” said the owner. Then he explained why. He’d seen us sitting by the lake all those times. He knew how much we loved the place and that we’d 28 the years of work they had put into their home. He realized he would get less by selling it to us, but it was 29 it. We were the people they wanted to live there. He told us to consider the 30 in the price “an early wedding (婚禮) present”.
That’s how we found our home and how I learned that when people are kind, they are not strangers, but friends we haven’t met yet.
