What’s language for? Some people seem to think it’s for practicing grammar rules(规则) and learning lists of words --the longer the lists, the better. That’s wrong. Language is for the exchange of ideas and information. It’s meaningless if you can’t use it freely. Many students I have met know hundreds of grammar rules, but they can’t speak correctly or fluently(流利地). They are afraid of making mistakes. One shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes when speaking a foreign language. Native(本土的) speakers make mistakes and break rules, too. Bernard Saw once wrote, “Foreigners often speak English too correctly.” But the mistakes that native speakers make are different from those that Chinese students make. They’re English mistakes in the English language. And if enough native speakers break a rule, it is no longer a rule. What used to be wrong bees right. So Chinese students should pay attention to grammar, but they shouldn’t overdo(做过头)it. They should put munication(交际)first.

(答案→)A
解析:本文讲述了语言是干什么的,应该怎样学习外语以及本民族的人学习本族语时是怎样的。
【小题1】根据Language is for the exchange of ideas and information.可知,语言是用来表述思想和信息的,也就是表达自己的观点的。所以本题选A。
【小题2】根据What used to be wrong bees right可知,如果本族人说语言时犯的错误较多,慢慢的就会成正确的了。所以本题选A。
【小题3】根据One shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes when speaking a foreign language可知,当说外语时不应该害怕犯错,所以本题选D。
【小题4】根据最后一句They should put munication(交际)first.可知,本题应该选B。
